Complaining and praising… Whatever is required

Just can’t cut a break…

September 17th, 2008 Posted in Personal | 1 Comment »

OK, so things haven’t gone as planned. In fact, it could be said that things have gone awry. But that is a silly word and I’ll have none of it. Anyway, what has occurred has been a comedy of errors, but none of the laughs have been in my favour. Dammit.

To start, let’s go to the beginning, which is a good place to start because it’s where it all began… Ahem.

happy/sad

September 15th, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

I got a good email recently titled “happy/sad”. It was a joke, you might have come across it. Joke was “Husband and wife were lying in bed, and the husband turned to the wife and said, ‘Go on. Tell me something that will make me happy and sad at the same time.’” Anyway, the punchline was funny. See if you can guess. Unless you already got the email, it’s probably a viral one… it was pretty funny, after all.

Today, I’m here to apologise for my lack of postage — the weekend was busy, and the backup puty (on which I’m typing away now) is on its last legs. It’s dying, ever-so-painfully slowly. Just when you think it’s about to finally kick it (and ease your pain), it gets it’s second wind. Currently it’s in limbo. It got to rock bottom today, ran totally out of battery and died. Then the battery charged. But it could die anytime, and I’m still expecting it to. Sigh.

The good news is that Acer have granted me a replacement under DOA, like they should have right from the start. So I should get the sexy puty back sometime this week. Means I will finally be back in the world of ‘being able to actually do things with your computer’. It’s a world I like to be in, because the crappy puty really shows me how bad it can be… Please sexy puty, come back to me!

More bad news is reflected in the fact that if the crappy puty does indeed die the death of non-life, then I won’t have anything to take with me to Japan… Sigh… We booked hotels with WiFi, dammit! I wanna post about cool stuff, and check my email, and keep in contact with the people I’m supposed to meet in Tokyo! Anyway… If it’s still alive, I’ll probably take it… Got a free notebook bag from work — I wanna use it, for spaghetti monster’s sake!

Well, that’s all. If I post tomorrow, then the little puty is still happy. If not, it’s in its deathbed again. But hopefully Wednesday I won’t post, because I’ll be busy setting up my new new computer! Yay me! It only took a month!

Good food, good god!

Yakiniku

I’m very lucky… But it may also be my downfall.

You see, Mihoko can cook. She is friggin awesome, and makes restaurant-quality food every night of the week. It absolutely rules. Last night we had yakiniku — absolutely perfect. In fact, it tasted even better than many yakiniku restaurants (see picture — although the colour is crappy due to nighttime and flash photography). In fact, maybe I will have to write about Japanese restaurants, give people a taste of the awesomeness that is over there.

But it’s not just the Japanese she does well — although she does do a wicked tempura, and she’s tops at sculpting sushi — she does all sorts of food well. In reality, yakiniku is Korean, and other such Japanese-style Asian foods are also amongst her specialties — mabo dofu, subuta, and so on (but she is yet to perfect ramen… actually she’s yet to try ramen)…

Sometimes things just don’t go your way

September 10th, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

Yeah, my notebook is still being “fixed”. I’ve cracked the massive shits, and told them to pull their finger out of their ass and return it, and stop telling me it is still under repair. They better offer me something to appease me, because at the moment I’m pretty close to asking for my money back and buying a Toshiba or something. Prior to buying my laptop, I heard good things about Acer’s service, but since I bought it I’ve heard only bad things, and now I’ve experienced it myself. Lucky me. But that’s not what I’m complaining about.

Singin’ and stuff

September 8th, 2008 Posted in Personal | 1 Comment »

Just watching Australian Idol and thinking about stuff… Aussie Idol’s not exactly the best show on TV — it certainly isn’t for everyone and in reality, I don’t like it that much. I don’t much like the songs that are sung, and so on, nor the fact that most winners go on to become very little, or at the most release a pretty crap album. It’s a bit sad really, and goes to show that the show really just uses people for ratings and doesn’t care much for them. But that’s not what I wanted to talk about. I just wanted to say that singing is fun, and it’s becoming popular.

Think about it — who doesn’t listen to a song on the radio and sing along when they’re alone? Who doesn’t get into their favourites and let loose once in a while? If you don’t, you need to pull the stick out of your ass and relax a bit. Put your feet up, get a glass of whiskey into ya, and stop worrying about the rest of the world for a moment. Because having a sing is therapeutic, and we all get into it, just maybe not in public.

Never enough time

September 7th, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

Well, that was a long day… Never enough time to do things. Friday, I was coming home from work, and the radio gave me the wicked idea for a post — it was something about the nature of people and so on, I like that shit, it’s interesting. But I got home, had… something… to do (can’t quite remember, perhaps it involved drinking… I know it involved a new game, hehe) and forgot! So now my super wicked post of awesomeness will resort to being a quick little rundown of the weekend… Because I’m rundown myself, and just want to do it the easy way. Yay for me and my resting brain.

An important thing to remember about people

September 4th, 2008 Posted in Personal | 3 Comments »

It’s can be easy to forget sometimes. We go about our busy little lives, all the time trying to satisfy our selfish wants and needs, and there’s never enough time in a day. Simple things can piss you off, make you snap, ruin your day — whatever. Sometimes we can be stuck in this world and forget that there are others around us. Not just work colleagues and friends, but even closer than that –  sometimes we can forget to appreciate the one’s we love. Yes, I’m going soft on this one.

Of course, we know we love them, we even tell them sometimes! We give them hugs, the occasional gift (or slap on the bum) and help them do things, but I think the one thing to remember is that everyone loves a simple little surprise. No matter how small, lame, or insignificant you may think it is, just the fact that you have planned something for the other person can mean the world. I know it makes my shitty day.

Why I don’t understand advertising

September 3rd, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

You see, down here in Oz, we are in the middle of a major drought. Well, at least in Victoria we are — there’s bugger all water. The past few years, it’s been raining less and less, which on one hand is a great thing, but on the other, sucks demon balls.

Australia’s greatest river system, the Murray Darling, is under threat. They are saying that if we don’t cop a heap of rain, it could have an immense detrimental effect on the system — not a good thing. Our largest reservoir in Victoria is under 20% of capacity, and the others aren’t so full either. And Victoria is currently at Stage 3a water restrictions (meaning you’re not even allowed to wash your car at home — which is good, because it gives me an excuse for not having washed my car in months, although I was only made aware of this recently)… This is pretty strange for me, because we weren’t under any restrictions before I left for Japan… Anyway, what the hell’s all this got to do with advertising?

Companies are lame

September 2nd, 2008 Posted in Personal | 2 Comments »

You know what I’m saying here? Companies, as a group, are lame. Painfully so. Sure, there has to be rules and regulations in order for the shit to go down (so to speak), but it’s such a pain in the ass.

Look at my new computer problems, for example. Acer will not give me an ETA based on the fact that they could be wrong (well, such is my understanding… they could just be jerks). Therefore, they just keep saying it is ‘undergoing repair’ and they will send me a message when it’s done. Great! A bit of hope would be nice! At the moment I’m just living day by day, wishing the stupid thing would be here! It would be easy to just say — Hey! ETA is 4 business days! — Even if it’s late, I can deal with that, I’m a big boy. I understand the “E” means “Estimated,” so life can go on. All I would require then is a bit of the old “Sorry, (such and such happened), it’ll will be at least another 4 business days,” or whatever. It’d just be fingers-crossed action for the four days… Instead, I’m currently going through a “Where the f**k is my computer!” stage, which isn’t so cool.

Dreams of electric sheep

September 1st, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

No, I’m not an android, and I’m not writing about artificial intelligence or books by brilliant sci-fi writers. Nope, I just came to another realisation today. What’s that, a cacophony of voices asks? I can’t do without my little luxuries… I need my electrical friends (giggle, you’ve got a filthy mind).

Yeah, I’m still waiting on the wicked puty to come back from the puty doctor. And although I only had the thing for 2 weeks, I suddenly found myself stuck back in the bog of sloth when I discovered it had to go. I had gotten used to lightning speeds and a computer that could handle the simple tasks (and anything I threw at it… well, for a time), so when I had to use the crappy one — and the crappy one alone… Well, let’s just say I didn’t enjoy it.

What’s so good about zombies?

August 29th, 2008 Posted in Games, Movies/TV, Personal, Uncategorized | No Comments »

“The Last Guy” was released on PSN today, so I downloaded the demo (because I’ve learned from past exprience: One, not all PSN games are good, even if you think they are [PixelJunk Eden]; and two, not all PAL games work on my Japanese PS3 [Siren]). Not so long after, I jumped in and grabbed the full game — $13, who could resist. Plus, it was fun running around trying to guide a group of people to safety. From zombies. Well, monsters and shit.

Then I started thinking, “Damn, I love zombies”… and this led to more rumination — why? Why the hell do I love zombies so much… Why the hell does everyone (who loves horror) love zombies so much? Really, when you think about it — in the horror world, zombies rule… They kick ass over vampires and werewolves (although I love both of them as well), and are arguably more popular to boot. So I thought — why do I like them… really?

Stupid computers

August 28th, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

Yeah, so you may be aware that my super wicked awesome computer died last week. Fully died in the butt and had to go back to Acer for repairs. Fair enough, no worries — new computer, you sort of have to expect that it’s bound to happen… Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever had a new computer that didn’t die early in its life… They usually come back better and stronger than ever.

Still young, but getting old

August 27th, 2008 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

It’s amazing how life can change. It doesn’t for everyone, I know that, I’ve known some middle-aged dudes that still hit the clubs, drink a lot (amongst other things), try to hook up with the ladies, and generally avoid the inevitability of life, but for myself, it couldn’t be more different. I did all of that when I was young, I went crazy and had a hell of a lot of fun in Tokyo, but now? I get home, and I’m happy to sit and do not much in front of the TV, or with a book, or with the notebook, whatever. In fact… I can’t imagine having the energy anymore.
