Complaining and praising… Whatever is required

Companies are lame

September 2nd, 2008 Posted in Personal

You know what I’m saying here? Companies, as a group, are lame. Painfully so. Sure, there has to be rules and regulations in order for the shit to go down (so to speak), but it’s such a pain in the ass.

Look at my new computer problems, for example. Acer will not give me an ETA based on the fact that they could be wrong (well, such is my understanding… they could just be jerks). Therefore, they just keep saying it is ‘undergoing repair’ and they will send me a message when it’s done. Great! A bit of hope would be nice! At the moment I’m just living day by day, wishing the stupid thing would be here! It would be easy to just say — Hey! ETA is 4 business days! — Even if it’s late, I can deal with that, I’m a big boy. I understand the “E” means “Estimated,” so life can go on. All I would require then is a bit of the old “Sorry, (such and such happened), it’ll will be at least another 4 business days,” or whatever. It’d just be fingers-crossed action for the four days… Instead, I’m currently going through a “Where the f**k is my computer!” stage, which isn’t so cool.

So you can probably see where I’m going. But at the same time, I do the same thing at work. I won’t tell someone anything officially — I will always be clear about where I stand on things. But the difference is I will always tell them something, regardless…

Then there’s (gas company). You see, I moved into my apartment earlier this year, and chose one of those companies that sets up all the gas and electricity for you (hint: don’t do that… Choose them yourself). Long story short, they screwed up on the gas, so (gas company) decided on take it upon themselves to bill us, although we thought we were using (a different company). I called (a different company) and they sorted their shit out, sent us a bill, and we paid it. I also called (gas company) and asked them to sort their shit out. They told me they did. Then I received a bill in the mail — from (gas company).

So I got all hot under the collar and called (gas company) to advise of the situation. They told me AGAIN that the situation was sweet, that my account would be cancelled, and that I would no longer owe them anything as I was being billed by (a different company). I agreed, smiled, and moved on with my life. Turns out they moved on with legal proceedings.

Yes, today I come home from work to find a letter in the mail marked “Final Notice”. It was from a company representing (gas company), and they told me that i I didn’t clear the amount I owed by the following day (yes, “!!” indeed), then they would take legal action.

I giggled, as I knew this wasn’t about to happen… Not for the pissy amount in question, but still, it was annoying.

I called (gas company), but they were about to close, so no-one was there that could take my call… I got angry, and told them to escalate it to someone that could, but they refused and asked me to call back tomorrow… on deadline day (as I now like to call it)… OK, they didn’t refuse, they just told me that the team that deals with these issues was finished for the day. Not much I can do about that.

So yeah, while it’s not a big concern, it’s a big pain in the ass. I have had TWO people (real ones) tell me that my account was sorted and I didn’t owe (gas company) anything, then nothing… Then suddenly a note in the mail saying “pay us or we’ll break your legs” (in much less threatening terms). I blame the protocol within (gas company). I’m guessing Idiot#1 sent it off to their boss, who did nothing about it, and probably lost their communication over time. Then Idiot#2 sent it off to her boss, who did nothing about it — maybe they raised an issue about it (which would explain why nothing has been done), then sent it back to Idiot#2, who thought that this wasn’t her responsibility, and sent it off to Idiot#3, who drooled on the paperwork and ate it.

You see, Idiot#3 is a goat. (Gas company) has goats working for them. Don’t get your gas from (gas company)!

Anyway, they better not expect me to pay, because now I’m pissed off. And I’ve already paid (a different company), so they won’t be getting anything. Doodle heads.

And you know what? Stupid (gas company) STILL hasn’t sorted it out! Apparently this was given “high priority,” but I gave them three full working days and still nothing! They work at blistering speeds…
