The winds of change…
August 23rd, 2008 Posted in PersonalYeah, things are happening. I’ve made decisions, and these will be put into place as of right now. You may have noticed that recently I have not been posting as often, nor as enthusiastically as I used to. There are many reasons for this, but it all comes down to the fact that I fell into the blogger’s folly.
What is that, pray tell? Lofty dreams and irrational choices, my friends. I started this blog as a means to voice my opinion — to write about whatever comes to mind and to have some sort of effect on the people that come to read it. But as I moved on, I thought I could be much more, I thought I could take on the big guys. But you know what? In the end, there are millions of blogs, many of which last all of a week and then fizzle out.
But that’s about the point I’m at. I’m not about to quit blogging, but I’m at a point where I realise that I am not adding much to the pool. I thought I could start an Australian gaming blog (which we sorely need — actually, we need a better gaming website to compete with PalGN), but I didn’t really think before I started… You need to have a lot of time on your hands; it really has to be a full-time job! So what I did was choose to only write about things that I found interesting, but that was a pretty lame idea. Not everybody is interested in what I like — to be honest, many readers of this page aren’t even interested in video games.
So I’ve made the decision to go back to what I originally wanted to do. I realise now that blogging is not a lucrative business (unless you REALLY work hard, and put a LOT of time into it, and even then there are no guarantees), and the real reason I should have this page is for the love of writing. For the fun of it. To put my stamp on the world, regardless of how little an impact it may have.
How did I choose to do this? Well, starting now, I will post whatever happens to be on my mind once a day. I will still throw in the occasional game or video or music post when I think it’s worth it, and some things may stay the same. But I need to focus on the readers I DO have, because I certainly am not pulling new ones in by the thousands — not in the slightest.
Secondly, sometime soon I will start a new page on a paid host using my own domain, and I will cease to update Vent. There are many reasons that I have chosen to do this, not the least of which being that I want my own domain, and I really don’t like Vent as a title. I’m also thinking of inviting some friends to post their thoughts on the page as well, and sort of make it a collaborative place for us to just leave notes for posterity.
It feels like an important move for me, and I think that in the long run, it’s going to be a good decision, although I will have to start all over again. Plus, I think that a lot of my friends reading now will be happy to know they won’t have to skip over so many game articles just to find out what’s going down in Greg’s head.
So there…. That’s it. I haven’t been happy with the site for some time now, I have just been mirroring other sites and my writing has suffered as a result. Thanks for sticking with me until now — and stick around, because I’m not giong anywhere just yet! I probably won’t move the site for a month or so — not until I’ve thought of a new title and set the bugger up! Any ideas/comments would be appreciated below!

Yay! Good to hear! I mean, I LIKE games, very much, but your independant musings on topics-a-plenty interest me more. Diversify gregy, spred your seed and diversify! Uh, I mean, um…write..stuff? *cough* Ogawa. Ogawa desu.
