EA Conference
August 20th, 2008 Posted in GamesI can understand the hullaballoo surrounding the games conferences — at least for Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo themselves. The can present all that is coming out on their systems and do their things, so on, so forth, whatever.
But the larger developers comng out with a conference? OK, to be honest, I understand. They need to show what they are doing, try to get the gaming world excited. But it’s just not that interesting. There were a couple of presentations during E3, but I didn’t even read them, because I thought they would be mega mega super lame. And there are no regrets.
Today, I was expecting the Sony conference to tell us exactly what they meant by a “next generation” SingStar when there is already s next gen SingStar that some of us have dropped coin for, as well as (reportedly) some details about new EyeToy games (well, PSEye now), but I was mistaken. Or early. Whatever, not available. So I checked out the EA conference.
While it was a bit of a waste of time, space, and money, there were a couple of announcements. Sims 3 will be released worldwide on February 20th 2009. I’m getting that mongrel, wasted enough time on previous Sims, I’ll get it out of respect. Still, I kind of expect it to be a bunch of the same… There can’t be much more they can do with a game of this type, can there? They’ve pretty much did what they can, and what they couldn’t, Second Life and other 3D worlds have stepped in to fill in the blanks. Still…
Lastly (there were other mentions, but most of them were lame or just… considered lame by me; I guess FIFA 2009 is bound to be pretty good), they spoke of a tennis game that utilises the new Wii motion-thing — nobody pays me to remember names, so I won’t anymore. In fact, things might change around here. Anyway, if it uses the motion-thing, it’ gonna bring a major smile to a face in my home, and it’s not gonna be mine. Then again, not sure if I really want the wife to pay that much, I wouldn’t mind having the TV to myself… Still, that was interesting. Better be good. At least better than Sega Superstars Tennis, which was a terrible game that was simply riding on the use of recognisable characters. Can’t be hard to beat that.
Don’t think I’ll pay attention to these kind of conferences anymore, just the big boys.
