Complaining and praising… Whatever is required

Weekend woes

August 19th, 2008 Posted in Personal

The world is a funny place. First you have a busy weekend and are pretty rooted after a full-on Saturday of stuff. Then, you finally get some time to whip out your notebook because you realise you didn’t post anything, and you find that the servers are down and you can’t. So you fiddle with stuff and you read the news. You play a few games and fiddle with other stuff. Try the site again. Still down, probably some bastard nerd with some crappy code rooted the servers — not much you can do, it’s free web hosting and you’re a nerd too.

So you go back to fiddling — you might even clean the house. You put your pants back on and check the ‘net. Still down. Shrug off the frustration — nobody reads your page anyway. You’ll fix it tomorrow.

Tomorrow arrives soon enough, but you have to go to work. You consider not going, but decide you really should. Same struggle every day, the servers being down just adds to the positives. Still, you go to work. You finish, you get home, you spark up the PC. You can access your site — joy. Elation. But you don’t know what to write about. So you postpone it till later in the evening. You play some games, fiddle, then decide the time has come to decide on something you find interesting. Something must be interesting.

You decide nothing is interesting, but choose something anyway — you HAVE to write about something. You’re in, you start, you try to save. Seems to be taking longer than usual. Great. At least I’m in, and I’m done, and it should be saved.

Error message. Check the forum. Shit’s still going down with the servers… great. Leave it another day. Stupid servers. Sigh.

Next day, wake up with a smile. Use the crappy notebook while you eat your brekkie, power up the good one when you’re done. But the good one decided to take today off. In fact, the good one decided to take every day off from now on. Stupid new computer, but thank god for Charles Warranty. His idea — the ‘warranty’ — means you can get it fixed for free. Just takes time. Go to work, do your thing. Don’t fiddle at work, you have other things to do.

Back at home, crappy computer will do the job, but no news really catches your eye. Added bonus? The post you wrote the day before didn’t actually save. You giggle like an idiot. Such is life.

On a brighter note, there should be news coming from Leipzig in Robotonia (Germany), as the Games Conference is a-happenin’ over the next few days. Peace be to thee.

Past few days update: Ratchet & Clank PSN title is ultra-short, but I still want it; Singstore is getting some more crappy songs (who chooses these songs anyway? 40-year-old women?); Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo this week is bound to be the shiznit; and it looks like LittleBigPlanet ain’t being released digitally after all, which is crap, but I still want it.

Perhaps its time to expand outside of games??? What are your thoughts on modern cinema? Piracy? Monkeys in trian stations? Sydney Vs Melb? Baka Gaijin?
