Complaining and praising… Whatever is required

Greg & Hoko update

August 13th, 2008 Posted in Personal

It’s been a while since I posted about what’s going down in my life, so I thought I’d pop a quick note in here.

All is going about as well as it could, but we aren’t going to be parents yet — still working on that. Fingers crossed. We are comfortable in our little home and have settled in well, but with visitors coming in October (you know who you are - my birthday will probably be Saturday 4th, so make sure those days are free and you are in Melbourne, punks), we need to empty out the ’store-all-of-our-crap’ room and make it a guest room!

We are also set to take a trip to Tokyo in October — we will be there between the 10th and 19th of October, but we also have a whole bunch of plans… We’ll be off to Osaka and Nara for a few days, and please don’t remind me that the Tokyo Game Show will be on at that time, because we just don’t think we can make it! Dagnammit!

Work is good, my new company is great, much better than my last, so I’m happy. We are saving just fine, although the only way we can is by doing very little, and that just means we can’t get out and do things with our friends. Actually, I won’t be able to get out and see the new Star Wars flick at the movies either, because that’s $20 better spent elsewhere. Such is life. It’s supposed to be poo-poo anyway. I’ve heard some VERY bad things. The word ‘Artooie’ sends shivers down my spine. I hope it was all lies.

Currently engrossed in the Olympics, as usual. Not a big fan of sports generally, but every four years I go gaga over it all. But I’ve found that, while it’s great to see your own country win gold and what-not, I really just want to see the best of the best battle it out. It’s interesting though, the Olympics was on TV a fair bit in Japan, but nowhere near the feverish levels it gets to here in Oz. We love it. I just think they (they being the IOC, or the TV channel that holds the rights to show the games) could make much better use of the Internet — they’re filming the whole of the games, why not pop the videos up on the web? At least the finals. That way nobody can complain that they can’t see the finals they want to, and we get to see the best in each sport battle it out, no matter what country they’re from.

Ah, whatever. I still love the games.

Anyway, that’s about all there is to say. We can’t afford to do anything, so we don’t. We buy all of our stuff from Aldi (except for the things they don’t have, which isn’t much), and we get all of our meat from the market. Then we cook everything — breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I cut out alcohol on ‘work nights,’ and everything we buy is budgeted for. That’s why we don’t buy four games a month like we used to. Sigh. One if I’m lucky. Another reason I like DLC — it’s cheap, and I can do it on the sly… Shhhh… It’s a secret….

Peace, y’all. Catch ya round, don’t be a stranger. Say hi.
