Warhawk getting a decent update
August 12th, 2008 Posted in GamesI bought Warhawk. I played all of 2 hours, and haven’t played since. Sure, it feels like a waste of money, and until now, it has been, but don’t think that’s because it’s a bad game. It’s mainly because it’s a hardcore game for hardcore players, and I’m not hardcore.
I like games that give you a chance to learn offline before making you fight it out online. This is part of the brilliance of Halo 3 — you can play through the game offline, then go online and get your ass handed to you, but at least get a few frags under your belt. Warhawk is online only, and the entry point is a headache, looking more like a spreadsheet than a forum for entertainment. Then suddenly you are thrust into the game, where you are immediately schooled by the much more experienced hardcore players. Repeatedly. And the controls take a whole lot of getting used to… Sigh. But it looks like that might be changing soon. Good.
August 27 is the date set in place for Warhawk update 1.5 to arrive. I recently downloaded 1.4, but haven’t played to find out what improvements were put in place, mainly because Trophies weren’t included at that point! Well, they’re coming now, so it might be time to return. On top of that, offline tutorials are to be included (thank the unicorn for that), and there will be some sort of change put in place to help noobs like me understand which servers are for beginners. A welcome change for a game that hasn’t been nice to beginners. Bring it on, I say. Greg will be going back into the game soon, I think.
To be honest, it’s pretty fun, but only for one player. We tried to play together, but third-person games that split the screen vertically..? Well, let’s just say it doesn’t work. Plus, the learning curve is quite steep, so it wasn’t something we really enjoyed doing together, athough we never vocalised this. Maybe Mihoko liked it? Who knows, but it’s about to be something I get back into myself at least… If only to get some more trophies!
