id are still around and making games
August 4th, 2008 Posted in Gamesid Software, the company behind Doom and Wolfenstein — some might say the catalyst for first-person shooters — are still around, they’ve just been quiet. Doom 3, while it was a pretty good game, was not exactly the cash cow it could’ve been. Rumours have floated about regarding Doom 4, but not much news has surfaced. What are id working on at the moment?
Well, a little game they call Rage. Apparently a re-imagining of the first-person genre, but they haven’t explained what’s so new about it. Sure, it looks GREAT, but it still just looks like another shooter. Trust me, I have no problem with that, shooters are awesome fun, but I just can’t get excited about new shooters unless they do something special. But… Rage is a little special, because there’s also a racing aspect to the game. Car racing. Yep, it’s a strange idea, and it might work, but I’m still wary of it… It just doesn’t excite me and I don’t know why. BUT~! I found this video interesting, so I posted it here. Sometimes you forget how difficult it is to make a game — it’s easy to focus on the things they screw up than the things they get right.
