Rumoured Rock Band pricing? Not funny!
July 29th, 2008 Posted in GamesOK. Let me start by saying the more I hear about Rock Band in Australia, the less I want it. And I want you good people to join me. We shouldn’t be treated this way, and we shouldn’t stand for it. Rock Band may have somethings you might think are better than Guitar Hero World Tour, but in the end they are the same thing. Boycott Rock Band. Send a message to the people who make the decisions.
And why? Because of this article at Kotaku. Of course, it might all be hearsay and conjecture, but it might also be pretty damn close to the bone. Rumour of an October release for Rock Band (a month after Rock Band 2 releases in the states) is a slap in the face for one, and the possible price point of $400 is a joke that nobody should be laughing at. Even if you have the money, don’t support this stupidity. It really goes to show that Australia is largely ignored by the video game industry, and it hurts. To have moved from a country where gamers are nurtured and encouraged (Japan) to a country where we are mistreated and tortured (Australia) may have been my own damn fault, but the stark contrast is clear to me.
And judging by the comments on the above article at Kotaku, it has become apparent to quite a number of gamers. But we have grown complacent. We have grown to accept that we are mistreated. We have grown to accept that games cost $120 — twice what they cost in Japan and America. And we don’t ask why. Because in the end, how can we make a difference? Well, I hear ya. But I don’t have an answer for you. All I can say is boycott Rock Band, and voice your discontent if you can. Oh, and import your games. You’ll save money, get the game you want, and send a message to the big boys… Although it might just encourage them to increase their prices.
Of course, we still don’t know what Guitar Hero is going to cost, and I don’t think that’s going to be pretty either. But at least it will probably be released at a similar time to the rest of the world. And we won’t be given the old, out-dated model. Jerks.
