Mygazines — digital distribution of magazines

How’s this for a great idea?? Mygazines.com (arguably a terrible name) is a somewhat new website where users upload magazine scans, and other users can digitally flick through them. It’s only in beta, but I’ve tested it out, and it’s a bit slow (that might be my computer) and clunky, but it totally works! Of course, not every magazine is available (but there’s a hell of a lot); it all comes down to what the users have, and what they upload, so you can’t complain!
On top of that, not only are the magazines themselves split into categories, but so are the articles! You can actually sift through individual articles, although I haven’t really tested this as yet… Time for me to go flick through some magazines! Of course, there are some other implications…
In reality, it is bound to be a huge infringement on copyright… Yeah, it’s probably not going to be around for long, so take a look while you can! Then again, it’s all uploaded by users, but… that’s not much of an argument. The site was pretty obviously created for a pretty specific reason…
HOWEVER. It’s a necessary breach. Going forward, all things must go digital. Not because it’s the best way (although I wouldn’t argue against it), but because if they don’t, piracy will rule in the end. A super cheap — or even free — online magazine, downloaded digitally and viewed on a portable reader, could generate some pretty good revenue for the publishers, depending on the $$ coming in from advertising.
Anyway. Time will tell.

I actually pay 5 Pounds a year for a PDF subscription of DJ Mag and its worth every cent… so this is a great idea as long as its supported.
Bring on 5 pound year subs for Edge!
