New Games: Mass Effect and Alex Kidd…
July 20th, 2008 Posted in Games, PersonalI had no intention of buying any games this weekend, especially given my financial situation (yeah, I know, whinge whinge friggin whinge), but when I sparked up my Wii and loaded up the shopping channel, I noticed my favourite childhood game was available, and I had 500 points in my bank… So I made the decision to use the points (I mean, I bought them AGES ago), and grabbed Alex Kidd in Miracle World. And I’m glad I did. Then I went even more crazy.
With reference to my Wii Virtual Console purchase, this particular Alex Kidd title was my favourite, and I spent many an hour playing through its colourful worlds… Sigh… I was a Sega child, so I played what I could, and I loved what I had… Oh, how the tides have changed. But, back to Alex Kidd, the game is still as fun as it was back then, but a hell of a lot easier than I remember — excepting the Janken sections… Seriously, putting the boss battles down to rock paper scissors was a MEAN decision… SO frustrating… Anyway…
Then I made my way to the shopping centre to purchase some tickets to Japan, and while I was there I noticed that EB games sale was still on… And Mass Effect was half price. So, after a good hour or so of contemplation, we decided to pick it up, and that made me even happier, as I had wanted to play that game for some time.
And again, I was pleased. Mass Effect is a great game, with a GREAT story. It’s not without its problems, of course, and no game is — the camera is sluggish, your character moves really slow and there’s no run button, and the aiming is a little off kilter… But none of these things really make the game anything less than friggin awesome… Good games are good, and that makes me happy…
Anyway, Mihoko then advised of her desire to get the PlayStation Eye… So we did! Credit cards suck! Hurry up tax refund! Hehe… PSEye test coming soon… Wonder what Eye games are available on the PSN? Will have to check. It. Out.
