New Xbox Dashboard

July 17th, 2008 Posted in Gadgets, Games

It’s a major overhaul to the basic look and feel of the Xbox dashboard, so as soon as I found and watched this video, I knew it would interest those of you with an Xbox 360. Personally, I think it looks great — simplified lines, far more functional, and, with the ability to skin your dash with themes still in place, there’s a lot more room to grow. Personally, I think the current dash is far too geeky and certainly not user-friendly. Of course it’s not rocket science either, but this new layout looks far more inviting to new gamers, and it looks a lot more modern, which appeals to my tastes.

There’s a lot of crazy talk from gamers regarding how ‘bad’ it looks, some of them even saying it’s a childish and immature design. But I must disagree, my fellow nerds — simplicity does not necessarily reflect childishness. In fact, I would say all people, regardless of their age, thrive on simplicity. Although it is far more simple, I still wouldn’t say this new dash is stripped down to its bare essentials, but it is certainly less text-heavy, which is always a major bonus. Good job, Microsoft.
