Australians, healthy?
June 25th, 2008 Posted in NewsHow strange is it, that in the space of one week, you can hear reports that Australians are now the fattest nation in the world, and other reports that Australians are among the healthiest in the world? Quite strange, but it seems to have been the case this week!
Apparently 26% of Australians are classified as obese, compared to Americans at 25%, so we just pipped them at the post. I, myself, can’t dispute this, and it’s pretty obvious. We have become the fast-food nation that America was first. Enough said. A report today, however, adds that Australians are now second-longest-living in the world, second, of course, to Japan (they are always number 1- see Sydney Morning Herald). We are suffering fewer heart attacks, surviving cancer more successfully, and are overall more healthy.
However, due to our weight problems, Australia is sinking cases of diabetes have increased rapidly. If we can get rid of our drinking weight problem, we might overtake Japan and rule the world! Yay Australia!
