Big Brother Update 2
June 22nd, 2008 Posted in Movies/TVSo, what’s going down in Big Brother town now? Well, as happens every year (as far as I can remember), over two consecutive weeks, my two favourite housemates have left way before their time — this year, it’s Renee and Nobbi. In my last update, I speculated that these two would make it to the end. So I was wrong. Such is life.
But it really goes to show the nature of the viewers. Well, OK, the nature of the viewers that vote. I mean, who’s left? Boring! The good people have left! And out of the people nominated each week, look at who are getting the most votes versus those getting the least. Nobbi, lots, Terri, few. Terri is a nice old dear, but come on…
Nobbi received FAR more votes than everybody else. And for what — the Travis incident? Well, you know what? Sure, it was mean, and it was dumb, and he is defending himself something crazy, but… It was blown so far out of proportion, it’s not funny. Guys do these things. We are insensitive, and it’s all done out of fun, then it goes pear-shaped. It happens all the time. I don’t think what he did was all that bad. I just think Alice and Travis’s reactions were a little… Overboard. Well, OK, unexpected. Nobbi was voted out for that, one insensitive act, and one in which he wasn’t the only problem. Rory and Ben played major roles. And Bridgette — the spoilt, arrogant, rude little girl, remains in the house, regardless of her regular selfish outbursts. Sure, that’s a little harsh, but I agree with every word that Terrence said to her. She has no manners and it is a sad state of affairs if youth such as her represent our future. OK, she’s young, sometimes she seems nice, and she’s really no different from a lot of young girls… But she doesn’t listen, and she doesn’t realise any of her misgivings.
Sure, I expected Nobbi to leave. What he did was bound to gain him some enemies, and I don’t mean to sound like I’m sticking up for him because I do think he was occasionally arrogant and rude himself. The difference is that he was fun, had a personality, and most of the time he was actually pretty nice (he just had his really bad moments). But what I didn’t expect was Renee leaving. What the f*** was that about Australia??? The most down-to-earth, nice, and funny person in the house, and you prefer the others? For shame. Well, not for shame, the others are nice too, on occasion. But still. Her and Nobbi were the best one’s in there. I will be pissed if Travis, Terri, or Alice wins. All nice people. But all boring as hell. Sorry, but you can’t defend their lack of, well… anything.
Anyway, who’s left? Cherry, the misogynistic surfer; Terri, the old lady; Terrence, the old man with a bad sense of humour; Bridgette, enough said; Ben, another boring bloke, but at least he seems real; Rory, the bricklayer that seems like a turd, but is actually a nice enough bloke (for all intents and purposes); Bianca, thinks she’s a lot of things that she’s not, but that’s just because she’s young; Alice, not sure what she’s got going for her, but at least she’s nice… well, that’s something, I guess; and Travis, odd bloke that needs to develop a little shame… or at least lose the naivete. Who’ll probably win? Adjusting for the fact that Australia sides with the lame-o boring people, I’d say Terri, Travis, or Alice. Who do I like now? Shit… Rory, I guess… I’ll just be watching now out of habit.
Oh, and I know I don’t know these people, and I really can’t comment on what happens in the show as they only show us so much, but going by that, well, this is how they come out to me. Nobody’s perfect, but some people are more interesting than others. Then again, I guess it comes down to your definition of interesting.
