Wii Lightsaber Game? Hmmm…
June 20th, 2008 Posted in GamesI’d like to say “hell yeah!” and scream for joy, but I’m just not sure. After reading about the upcoming Wii Star Wars game at PalGN, I was pleasantly surprised that it mentions that it was to be subtitled “Lightsaber Duels”. This is not something that nerds have been begging for since first mention of the Wii remote, no, not at all… Of course it is, and of course it was something that was reportedly being worked on since the release of the Wii, and it is something that us nerds are all still begging and drooling for. But you know what? Now that it’s on the horizon, I just don’t buy it. But why?
Well, for one, I have been tainted by Red Steel. It was one of my first Wii games, and it is probably my least-played game. I think I played it for about an hour on the first night, and I never went back to it. The controls are terrible, and it did not live up to the promise. Since then, I haven’t been all that impressed by Wii remote controls. Of course, No More Heroes did things right. But that’s because it DIDN’T go for one-to-one movements. Yep, I said it. The right choice was not to go one-to-one. Therefore, I have reservations.
Then I read the PalGN article. And my fears were not allayed. Listen to the language that is used. The interview mentions very clearly that it is not a one-to-one lightsaber game… So I am not excited by it. In fact, it almost seems like a cheap money-making venture. But of course, we shall see in due time. It may very well turn out to be the game that makes us feel like the Jedi we all know we are.
