Earthquake in Japan

June 15th, 2008 Posted in Japan, News

Quick news brief (quite late, I know): There was an earthquake in Miyagi and Iwate prefectures of Japan on Saturday (both of which are situated approx. 300 km north of Tokyo). It occurred in the morning, and hit 7.2 on the Richter scale — apparently the largest inland quake in Japan in 8 years. The largest earthquake I experienced reach about 5 on the Richter, and that one scared the absolute crap out of me — 7.2 is a serious damn shake of the dirt. Very scary.

To date, 9 people have been reported as having died as a result of the quake, with hundreds injured. Hopefully these numbers don’t increase over the coming days, but with such a strong quake, it’s relieving that the numbers are so low, although it’s never good for anyone’s life to be cut short for any reason.
