Complaining and praising… Whatever is required

Quick thought about greed.

June 12th, 2008 Posted in Personal

I work in an office. It sucks. If you’ve seen Office Space, you pretty much get the picture. It’s boring, full of office-loving tools (although there are some good folk as well, of course), repetitive, and rife with politics.

Anyway, I was grabbing an envelope from a guy that had quite a few, and he said something that made me think about the nature of man and greed. After asking if I could grab an envelope, he said to me, “Sure, take as many as you like — but if I had a million, you could only have one.” We had a chuckle between us, but after thinking it over (possibly more than I needed to, as usual), I came to the conclusion that it was possibly a pretty accurate observation!

We, as humans, like to share amongst ourselves, particularly with those of the same socio-economic status, but as soon as we have a hell of a lot of something, we become protective. I don’t think this applies to everyone, but I think there is a modicum of truth in it. I have never been rich, but I know that if I was, I certainly wouldn’t want to fall back down to the lowly depths that I am at now…

Anyway, just thought I’d share that with ya.
