Quick thought about greed.
June 12th, 2008 Posted in PersonalI work in an office. It sucks. If you’ve seen Office Space, you pretty much get the picture. It’s boring, full of office-loving tools (although there are some good folk as well, of course), repetitive, and rife with politics.
Anyway, I was grabbing an envelope from a guy that had quite a few, and he said something that made me think about the nature of man and greed. After asking if I could grab an envelope, he said to me, “Sure, take as many as you like — but if I had a million, you could only have one.” We had a chuckle between us, but after thinking it over (possibly more than I needed to, as usual), I came to the conclusion that it was possibly a pretty accurate observation!
We, as humans, like to share amongst ourselves, particularly with those of the same socio-economic status, but as soon as we have a hell of a lot of something, we become protective. I don’t think this applies to everyone, but I think there is a modicum of truth in it. I have never been rich, but I know that if I was, I certainly wouldn’t want to fall back down to the lowly depths that I am at now…
Anyway, just thought I’d share that with ya.
