Complaining and praising… Whatever is required

Rock Band 2 and SingStar 2 whingeing

June 8th, 2008 Posted in Games

Found this article on Kotaku. Shows some possible box art, and refers to a release date advised by their “retail buddies” (which would refer to their contacts in certain video game stores) in regards to Rock Band 2.

What really twists my knickers is not only the fact that the game hasn’t been released in Oz (we’ve touched base there, somewhat), but moreso that… Why the hell does a game like Rock Band need a friggin sequel anyway (and SingStar as well, for which Pt. 2 has already been confirmed)?

OK, so there are some things with Rock Band that need addressing, apparently the online multiplayer and so on, but for a game that has so much downloadable content, and has a great deal of appeal as a one-off purchase that keeps growing- so wtf?? Sigh. Well, they gotta make some more money, don’t they?! Especially with Guitar Hero: World Tour being released this year, they have to combat the bigger brand, I guess. So, yeah, I understand, but at the same time… It should be that the better product wins out in the end.

Then again, SingStar 2 is on its way. That’s another franchise that has a lot to answer for. SingStar 2, in my opinion, should be for those who have little access to DLC, so that they can add a few extra songs to their list. The songs should be downloadable as well, for those of us that do. Any upgraded functionality should be available as an update (even a paid one if need be), so that those of us that have the game don’t have to spend full price for a bunch of songs we probably don’t want. SingStar worked well in multiple editions on PS2, but with the advent of connected machines, this should fall by the wayside. As I mentioned at the end of my last SingStar post, Nintendo may have it right. Release the platform and add to it, folks. Make the dollars on subscriptions. But that’s just my 2 cents.
