Complaining and praising… Whatever is required

Guitar Hero: World Tour- set your wallet on fire…

May 26th, 2008 Posted in Games

Damn. Competition sucks. Especially in the video game world. You see, the problem is, a lot of gamers are 20-something males on an independent salary. They can afford to buy whatever crap is released, and at whatever crazy price (no, I’m certainly not saying ALL gamers, but there’s enough- I used to be one of them… *sniff*). Therefore, game companies can be jerks and create precisely what we want… for a price.

Yeah, so they also try to price them so that they are within the reaches of those of us that aren’t 20-something independent earning spendthrifts, but the problem is… it still hurts!

Guitar Hero: World Tour has been priced, but not officially, mind. Priced by Gamestop. There are those who pay attention to Gamestop’s prices. And there are those who wait. Me? I’ll pay some attention. Because I think they aren’t gonna be too far off the mark. Let’s look at the situation.

It’s a newer game, with new and improved guitars- more responsive, they say. It has a better drum kit (tomorrow I plan to compare the sets- based on appearances alone, of course). And it is from an extremely popular franchise- one that has a huge name built for it amongst non-nerds and nerds alike. So why wouldn’t it cost a little more? Why go for the slightly dodgy guitars and less realistic drum set, when you can pay that little bit more for the real deal? Jerks.

Then again, if Harmonix play the game right, they should drop their price on it’s release, just to stick it up them. Hang on… Rock Band hasn’t even been released in Oz. Cue good reason for Rock Band to only slightly undercut them on these shores. Sigh…

You see, it sucks to be an Aussie sometimes. Most of the time it kicks absolute anus, just being an Aussie entitles you to a sweet life of awesomeness in the land of wonderment (just ask the Kiwi’s, much the same over there). But, if you like music, video games, and movies- you tend to get loved up no-no style. I’m yet to be given a satisfactory reason as to why we pay such exorbitant prices. It’s because we have a small population, and releasing something here probably costs a helluva lot more than would actually be made if things were sold at regular prices. If only they could be honest with us. Jerks. They’re just jerks (like koalas).

So yeah… While the rest of the world chooses their band game of choice (regardless of which one is said to be better when the chips are down), we here in Oz will probably have to chose between rocking out, or selling our first-born — if you have one to sell… If not, looks like you’re screwed.
