Complaining and praising… Whatever is required

Anyone for Rock Band 2?

May 18th, 2008 Posted in Games

What the hell? Rock Band is yet to reach our golden shores, and already there is talk of Rock Band 2? Admittedly, it’s only talk of a questionnaire that was taken by a Kotaku reader, but still… I think if you read through the article, it really shows that Harmonix is quite wary of Guitar Hero 4. Guitar Hero is a popular, well known brand, there has been a piss-take on South Park (there’s fame for ya)- perhaps they believe that in a war between video game brands, Guitar Hero would beat out Rock Band…

I suppose a healthy modicum of fear is important in this regard, as they may well be right. For gamers, particularly those of us who peruse the net for gaming news, it is likely that we would purchase Rock Band as it’s probably the better choice (seriously, look how much Harmonix cares for their fans- there have been so many songs released as DLC, it’s not funny). Sure, GH4 hasn’t been released, and news is still thin on the ground, but Rock Band has the support of MTV, and it’s already proven itself as an awesome brand.

But for those who’ve never tried it? It’s likely that Guitar Hero would be their game of choice. People buy what they know and trust, it’s a proven phenomenon, and it’s the reason McDonald’s and other such brands are so popular- why try the new hamburger joint when you know the taste of these one’s is going to satisfy?

But, like I mentioned in a previous post about Guitar Hero 4, it is a damn good reason to release Rock Band in Oz, sooner rather than later. Hopefully Harmonix sees things the way I do…
