Complaining and praising… Whatever is required

Wow… I feel old…

May 6th, 2008 Posted in Music, Personal

It’s funny; the little things that make you realise that– hey, you’re starting to become one of the old folk.

My work runs these little internal competitions to drive productivity, and make work “fun”. To some degree, they make things slightly more interesting, but considering my work is pretty bland, it takes a LOT to make it “fun”. How about playing some better music? Sigh…

Anyway, this month, our individual teams are required to name ourselves and play against each other- no worries. My suggestion for our team name was a pun based on the band “Guns ‘n’ Roses”. This was the name chosen, but when discussing the band, one of my colleagues– a guy I thought was a pretty cool cat– mentioned that “Guns ‘n’ Roses only had one or two good songs”, and the only album worth listening to was Appetite for Destruction

Being a teen of the nineties, G’n'R represents … well… pretty much the whole late eighties/early nineties in regard to rock (then followed by the grunge era), and G’n'R were GODS amongst my friends- Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II being the albums of choice. This made me realise that– shit, what was cool when I was young (and what I still think is (was) a mad band) isn’t appreciated amongst today’s youth (my colleague is only 20-odd).

Maybe I’m losing my ability to read people; I mean, maybe he’s not into the same kind of music I am, but still– I feel old.

And Guns ‘n’ Roses still rule (let’s try to ignore the Axl Rose show that parades itself as G’n'R these days)…
