Future of the Koala… Climate change is to blame (as usual).
April 9th, 2008 Posted in NewsAs much as I don’t like Koalas (I think they have stupid looking faces and are droopy, soul sucking jerks), it twanged the old heartstrings when I read this. Apparently, climate change is drying out the hairy little jerks’ food supply. Well… that is a very general summary of the situation… To clarify- reduced protein in eucalyptus leaves (due to climate change) is having a negative effect on the marsupials that eat them. The population of greater gliders has been decreasing in recent years- possibly as a result of the reduced quality of the leaves (but not likely for that reason alone, of course).
So, even though I think stupid pictures (propaganda!) of Koalas worldwide should be replaced by happy little pictures of fun loving wombats, which are infinitely more cute- and not at all jerks, I think we should take a good hard look at what we can do to save the jerkoalas. Because they are Australian too. And we are alright.
So ends today’s lesson. Koala is a strange word.
Poor climate change… gets blamed for everything these days… And yes, I know this is two-day-old news. I’m just two days behind.
